Week 1: Introductions09/04

  • Portfolio Step 1: Presentation on your work and your goals after school (~4 mins)
    • Organize digital images of your work into folders
    • Write down a short description of your ideal role after school
    • Prepare a ~4 minute presentation (with visuals) to share with the class

Week 2: Work Share09/11

  • Develop 2 proposals for your portfolio including: platform, organization principle, table of contents, and concept. These proposals should include visual references – sketches, screenshots/moodboard, and/or references of other portfolios
    • In particular, consider your business card, which is due on 9.25

Week 3: Strategies09/18

  • Share Self-Portrait exercise outcomes
  • Review portfolio strategies in small groups
    • Platform, organization principle, table of contents, and concept with visual references (sketches, screenshots/moodboard, and/or references of other portfolios)
  • Chris shares some novel print examples
  • Design your business card and bring a PDF and black and white printed mock-up in to class next week
    • Be prepared to discuss... font choice, layout, material proposal, and broader context for your idea
    • We will have group meetings, sign up here

Week 4: Business Cards09/25

  • Meet in small groups to share your business cards
  • After sharing your business card, meet Jason and Jeewoon to do a printer demo in Room <111> of Building 49
  • Business Card Design
  • Based on the graphic identity you have started with your business card create 3 or more "template" pages for your PDF portfolio. I would recommend horizontal A3 paper size with A4 as a second option. In either case, I would think how you could quickly rearrange and reassemble pages to make versions for different circumstances. Make sure to include:
    • A cover page, project intro page, and project imagery page. You may also consider having an "about" page, "contact info" page, or "index" page (plus anything else you can think of!)
  • Look up But Whole Press and Troy Taylor in preparation of their call into class next week

Week 5: PDF10/02

  • Discuss your PDF designs in small groups
  • Guest talk with Troy Taylor
  • Optional meeting with Chris, Jeewoon, and Jason to share your PDF portfolio progress
  • 3 or more "template" pages for your PDF portfolio.
  • Reminder: Next week is the Chuseok Holiday and there won't be class. Have a great Chuseok!
  • When we meet next on October 16th it will be for studio visits with Sojanggak, Studio DD, and TRIANGLE Studio, please refer to the class document for more info
  • Based on your groups feedback, continue making progress on your PDF portfolio. Prepare an example project using your defined portfolio template for the next class after the holiday (Oct 16) and share your PDF on KakaoTalk in the class group chat

Week 6: Chuseok Holiday10/09

  • No class today, Happy Chuseok!
  • Meet next class at the studio visits (Sojanggak, Studio DD, and TRIANGLE Studio) you signed up for at your allotted time
  • Based on your groups feedback, continue making progress on your PDF portfolio. Prepare an example project using your defined portfolio template for the next class after the holiday (Oct 16) and share your PDF on KakaoTalk in the class group chat

Week 7: Studio Visits10/16

  • Prepare an example project using your defined portfolio template and share in the class Kakaotalk
  • Make a rough draft of your entire PDF portfolio
  • Next class we will have week 1 of a 2 week workshop with IN THE.GRAPHICS

Week 8: IN THE.GRAPHICS Workshop pt. 110/23

  • IN THE.GRAPHICS workshop pt. 1
    • Please bring your laptop and be ready to work!
  • Email Chris a rough draft of your entire PDF portfolio
  • Begin thinking about what would be a good resource for a future Portfolio Design class, proposal due on 11.06!

Week 9: IN THE.GRAPHICS Workshop pt. 210/30

  • IN THE.GRAPHICS workshop pt. 2
    • Please bring your laptop and be ready to work!
  • Prepare a proposal of a resource for a future Portfolio Design class and bring your idea to class next week 11.06! We will share about them in small groups, so be prepared to share in the way that best suits your idea (as a presentation, bring in a moodboard, examples, etc.)

Week 10: No Class11/06

  • No class today due to personal reasons
  • Prepare a proposal Portfolio Resource for a future Portfolio Design class and bring your idea to class next week 11.13! We will share about them in small groups, so be prepared to share in the way that best suits your idea (as a presentation, bring in a moodboard, examples, etc.)

Week 11: Resources11/13

  • Based on our discussion today, move forward with your Portfolio Resource, and the web version of your portfolio. Next week, bring in updates for both, including a proposal for your website (will it be a full website, IG account, x.com account, etc.)

Week 12: Web Card11/20

  • Make a rough draft of your Portfolio Website and Portfolio Resource
  • Mihyun Son will visit to do a photography demo!

Week 13: Check-ins11/27

  • Mihyun Son is unable to conduct the workshop this week due to illness, we will try to reschedule before the end of the semester
  • Small group meetings to check on your portfolio materials
  • Continue making progress on your portfolio materials
  • The "Portfolio Extension" is now an extra-credit project, if you'd like to create one, please bring in an update on it next week to discuss

Week 14: Study Abroad12/04

  • Chris and Yungkyung Lee talk about studying abroad
  • Small group meetings to check on your portfolio materials
  • Finalize all your portfolio materials for Part 1 of the final review

Week 15: Final Reviews + Photo Workshop12/11

  • For those presenting next week, finalize all your portfolio materials for Part 2 of the final review
  • Please submit a Portfolio Archive to Chris (chamamoto@snu.ac.kr), Jeewoon (jw1234@snu.ac.kr), and Jason (thededtoboca@snu.ac.kr) via WeTransfer by Dec 19th.
    • Your archive should include your PDF portfolio, PDF of your business card, link to your web portfolio + screenshots, and photos/pdf/screenshots (whatever is appropriate) of your Portfolio Resource

Week 16: Final Reviews Pt. 212/18
