Exercise: Portfolio Timeline
Create a personal timeline for your portfolio – consider your portfolio sketches and concepts, and process the small group discussions of their pros and cons (or consider them yourself if you haven't met yet), and how you may bring them to fruition. Based on these considerations, begin to define milestones for your portfolio.
Your portfolio timeline should at minimum include:
- Image creation / collection (photographing your projects, scanning, exporting files, screen recordings, etc.)
- Writing project descriptions
- Portfolio Design
- Portfolio Production
But based on your concept and design, you may have specific requirements (Do you need to render 3d models? Design a mobile version of your portfolio in addition to its desktop design? Send files to print?). Make sure to add your unique deliverables to your timeline and help eachother break down your portfolio pieces into acheivable goals.
Additionally Keep in mind the following deadlines:
- 11/04: All works cataloged (imagery and written descriptions)
- 11/18: Rough draft portfolio and media extension due
- 12/09: Final portfolio due
And create your own personal deadlines. Format your schedule it in the following style adding as many deliverables/checkpoints as is helpful for you:
date | task |
---|---|
... | ... |
10/16 | Photograph Works |
10/30 | Edit Photos |
11/06 | All works cataloged |
... | ... |
Based on your deliverables, create a set of questions you have about how to meet these deadlines. If you need access to photography equipment, but don’t know where to rent it, write it down as a specific question: “How can I access tripods, a digital camera, and seamless background?”.
Or if you want to make an interactive portfolio website, but don’t know where to start, again formulate your concerns into a specific question. Rather than: “How do I make a website”, try: “How do I make a webpage where I can click and drag randomly placed images?”.
Feel free to use this template if it is helpful for you.
Post any questions + answers you think would be helpful for your peers, and any questions you'd like feedback from the class on Kakaotalk.
Send a copy of your portfolio timeline to chris before next class (10/07).
